What is The Art of Preludes?
Art of Preludes is a curated concert experience that traces the evolution of the prelude across centuries. The program brings into dialogue works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Frédéric Chopin, Alexander Scriabin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Dmitri Shostakovich, and culminates in a complete contemporary cycle by Lera Auerbach.
Rather than a sequence of short works, it unfolds as a single, continuous artistic arc.
Is this a traditional recital program?
No. While it draws on canonical repertoire, the program is conceived as a curated experience rather than a conventional recital.
The ordering of works is integral to the artistic meaning, creating a narrative that unfolds across the entire evening.
How long is the performance?
The full program is designed as an evening-length experience (approximately 90 minutes with an intermission, depending on the presenter’s preference).
Shorter curated versions may be offered when appropriate.
